Create Flashback Guarantee Restore Point | Oracle Database

Updated: Apr 16

The following opinions expressed in this post are my own and in no way connected to my employer.

Oracle Flashback Database and restore points are related data protection features that enable you to rewind data back in time to correct any problems caused by logical data corruption or user errors within a designated time window. These features provide a more efficient alternative to point-in-time recovery and does not require a backup of the database to be restored first.

Check current Database Status

select name,database_role,open_mode,flashback_on,log_mode from v$database;

Check if there are any existing Guaranteed Restore Points

SELECT NAME, SCN, TIME, DATABASE_INCARNATION#, GUARANTEE_FLASHBACK_DATABASE, STORAGE_SIZE FROM V$RESTORE_POINT WHERE GUARANTEE_FLASHBACK_DATABASE='YES';

Check Current FRA Location and Size

show parameter recovery

Create Flashback Guarantee Restore Point

CREATE RESTORE POINT TEST_APOINT GUARANTEE FLASHBACK DATABASE;
SELECT NAME, SCN, TIME, DATABASE_INCARNATION#, GUARANTEE_FLASHBACK_DATABASE, STORAGE_SIZE FROM V$RESTORE_POINT WHERE GUARANTEE_FLASHBACK_DATABASE='YES';
select * from V$FLASHBACK_DATABASE_LOG;
select * from V$FLASHBACK_DATABASE_STAT;
